Effect of diet on phosphine toxicity, rate of development and reproduction of the rice weevil Sitophilus oryzae (Linnaeus)

Thiamine deficiency has the potential to severely disrupt energy metabolism. A thiamine deficient diet of white rice slows the developmental rate and reduces reproduction of S. oryzae. Thiamine is an essential cofactor of enzyme complexes implicated in phosphine resistance. A diet of white rice does not exacerbate resistance to phosphine in S. oryzae.
