Endothelial cells internalize and traffic HDL and lipid-free apoA-I through the same intracellular route.
This route partially overlaps with that of albumin or LDL.
HDL uptake into endothelial cells appears to involve neither clathrin-coated pits, nor caveolin-1, nor fluid-phase.
HDL is trafficked through different vesicles involving tubulin and dynamin.
At least some HDL particles are stored within large atypical vesicles.
