Summer heat waves and urban heat island of an Italian historical city are studied. Statistical analysis of continuously monitored weather data is performed. Building dynamic simulation is performed to study the thermal-energy effect of HW. Correlation is found between outdoor overheating and prevailing wind directions. Indoor overheating risk is exacerbated by high envelope thermal insulation.
