Neural correlates of understanding of Naming and Requesting were studied with fMRI.

Naming activated the left angular gyrus relevant for referential semantic processing.

Requests activated the inferior frontal, premotor and temporo-parietal cortices for action sequence prediction.

Speech act understanding relies on processing of intentions and predicting action sequence structure.
