The cortical not the cutaneous silent period is affected in dystonia of various etiology treated with GPi DBS.
The cortical silent period (CoSP) in dystonia is longer with GPi DBS suggesting increase of cortical inhibitory effects.
The GPi DBS-related prolongation of the CoSP in dystonia reached similar values as in healthy group suggesting normalization.
The inhibitory effects of GPi DBS varied with phenotype implying several pathophysiological mechanisms in dystonia.
