An ion selective aprotic Li/polyiodide semi-liquid battery was demonstrated. The polyiodide shuttles can be suppressed by the electrostatic repulsion. A high energy density of 170.5 Wh L−1 was attained with 1.5 M LiI3 catholyte. Stable cycling was achieved with a capacity retention over 84% for 100 cycles.
