Hedgerows in Northern Germany form an important habitat for many forest species. There has been both an acidification and eutrophication of hedgerows over the past 50 years. Overall plant species richness decreased. Herbaceous plant community composition distinctly shifted towards a dominance of more nitrophilous species.
