We estimate the Al-in-olivine temperatures for the picrites in the ELIP. The maximum crystallization temperature of the ELIP (1440 °C) is ~ 250 °C higher than the average temperature of MORB. The results provide compelling evidence for the existence of thermal mantle plumes in the ELIP.
