Resin bonded filter media were prepared with in situ generated surface roughness.

Media wettability was fine-tuned by resin solidification control for emulsification.

Media were able to coalesce 3 surfactant-stabilized oil-in-water emulsions.

Separation was surfactant type dependent due to differed adsorption intensity.

Ethanol was identified as an alternative solvent to IPA for resin emulsification.
