An analytical optimization of thermal energy storage for electricity cost reduction in solar thermal electric plants

A parametric model is proposed to characterize cost and performance of solar thermal electric plants. Each type of solar thermal electric plant is characterized by a parametric scenario. Optimal relations are identified among relevant parameters representing main plant features. Thermal energy storage capacity and solar multiple show different optimal values in the different parametric scenarios. Economic impact of thermal energy storage strongly depends on the capital cost of the solar field.
