Aflagellated S. Enteritidis have a colonization benefit in the oviduct in vivo.. S. Enteritidis downregulates flagellar gene transcription in chicken oviduct cells. Flagella are important for motility but not for invasion of oviduct cells. Aflagellated S. Enteritidis induces less inflammation in the chicken oviduct. Results indicate flagellin downregulation by S. Enteritidis to avoid immune response.
