The relationship between CO2 emissions and voluntary compliance is explored. CO2 emissions are quantified from energy consumption for firms in Indian iron and steel sector using IPCC reference approach. Panel data econometric analysis is used to obtain the results. The results suggest positive relationship between voluntary compliance and reduction in emissions intensity. Policy measures may include standards of ISO 14001 to manage climate change at micro level.
