Parkin levels increase in lens epithelial cells exposed to H2O2-oxidative stress. Parkin translocates to damaged LEC mitochondria and recruits p62/SQSTM1. Parkin clearance of damaged LEC mitochondria requires E3-ubiquitin ligase activity. Clearance of damaged LEC mitochondria reduces ROS levels and increases LEC survival.
