Naval architect students tested software aimed to support ergonomic ship design. Designer empathy of end-user work demands increased through 2D & 3D visualization. Participants want ergonomic tools directly integrated in technical design software. Preconceived attitudes & norms impact engineering student's opinions of ergonomics. A mixed-methods framework facilitated customized, flexible user testing.
