文摘
Through an intense powder mixing produced in a planetary mill, they were manufactured Al2O3-ceramics strengthened with different amounts of Ti nano-particles. After milling, powders SEM observations show good dispersion of titanium in the mixture. From these observations it was estimated that the size of titanium particles is around 100 nm, whereas, Al2O3 presents 1-2 μm sizes. Then compacts made with mixed powder were pressureless at 1500 °C during 2 h. Resulting microstructures, show dense composites formed by an Al2O3-ceramic matrix with homogeneous immerse distribution of Ti nano-particles. Fracture toughness of the composites is directly dependent with the titanium content in the ceramic-matrix.
