Lignin was esterified (Ac, Pr, Bu, He) to tune its Mw, Tg, hydrophobicity, and polarity. Lignin esterification enhanced compatibility of PHBV blends better than PP. Lignin acetate and propionate were partially miscible with matrix having two Tgs. The lignin esters influenced PHBV spherulite morphology but not% crystallinity. Lignin hexanoate ester acted as plasticizer suppressing Tg and moduli of blends.
