Effluents from pulp and paper mills are one of the most important pollutants in countries with wood processing industry. We have shown that subchronic exposure of roach, a cyprinid fish, in a lake receiving effluents from a mill using chlorine in bleaching resulted in decreased immunoglobulin levels and poor responsiveness in immunization.
