Effect of air bubble injection on the performance of a horizontal helical shell and coiled tube heat exchanger: An experimental study

Air bubbles are injected into the shell side of a horizontal shell and helical coil heat exchanger. A novel sub-millimeter air bubbles injection mechanism is designed and employed. Both parallel flow and counter flow configurations are examined. Different air flow rates along with different shell side water flow rates are considered. NTU, effectiveness and exergy loss increased significantly due to the injection of air bubbles.
