The excitation quenching mechanism in IsiA, a chlorophyll a-binding protein from cyanobacteria has been reevaluated. Carotenoids do not support chlorophyll a in light harvesting in this protein. Chlorophyll excitation quenching mechanism is not mediated by carotenoids. Results suggest that chlorophyll excitation quenching is regulated via chlorophyll a-protein interactions.
