PE conducted under professional recommendations could impact child overweight. Estimated energy expenditure (EEE) is the highest under professional recommendations. Net changes in state PE policies between 2012 and 2016 had little effect on EEE. PE remains an underutilized public health resource for children's energy expenditure.
