Crystallization of water-bearing magmas in thermal boundary layers leads to fractionation. Magma ascent conduits are favourable setting for magma differentiation of wet magmas. Water saturation of partially crystallized magmas is the driving force for liquid-crystal separation and differentiation. Mafic microgranular enclaves (autoliths) may represent quenched mushes dragged from the walls of ascent conduits.
