Twin-screw extrusion can be used for sugarcane biomass pretreatment. Sugarcane straw was more amenable to extrusion in comparison to bagasse. Glycerol was an efficient biomass additive for the extrusion process. Extrusion passes and reverse elements in the screw design benefited the process. Barrel temperature and screw speed have a modest influence on the pretreatment.
