Ten HCV patients and their caregivers were prospectively studied during treatment. Baseline patient quality of life and family functioning were below healthy levels. Baseline levels of caregiver distress were elevated. Family functioning worsened over the course of treatment. Families may benefit from ongoing support during invasive, prolonged treatments.
