Highly selective catalytic conversion of ethanol to propylene over yttrium-modified zirconia catalyst

Selective conversion of bio-ethanol to propylene was investigated on Y/ZrO2 catalyst. The highest propylene yield is 44.0%, ethylene yield is 31.3% on Y/ZrO2 catalyst. Reaction pathway was suggested to be ethanol to ethylene on the acidic sites. Reaction pathway was ethanol→ acetaldehyde → acetone → propylene on the basic sites.
