Research data on torsional low-cycle fatigue of solid cylindrical steel components (C45 and S355) under high levels of shear strain is lacking. This research sheds light into low-cycle fatigue performance of cylindrical components subjected to torsion at very high strain levels. A Coffin-Manson type equation is developed for solid cylindrical members subjected to torsional shear strains as high 40 times the yield strain. The effects of loading pattern and sequence, low temperature, specimen size, surface finishing and aspect ratio on torsional low-cycle fatigue of solid cylindrical steel specimens are investigated.
