Eutectic Si size/morphology/distribution control fatigue crack growth mechanisms. Intergranular regions promote blocked slip and stress redistribution. Early crack growth is improved by fine grains and Al-Si interface strengthening. Eutectic Si is detrimental in later growth stages due to low fracture energy.
