Pot experiment on red soil (garden soil) contaminated by heavy metal was conducted in Guixi, Jiangxi, China. The five treatments included the control (CK), application of lime at 1.20 (LimeLow) and 2.4 g.kg-1 (LimeHigh), organic fertilizer (hollow swine feces) at 6.0 g kg-1 (OMlow) and 12.0 g.kg-1(OMHigh) were conducted. The results indicate that using lime to tune soil pH to light alkalescence could improve net photosynthesis significantly, increase soil microbe C (especially for cellulose-decomposing bacterium), reduce the available content of heavy metal for the growth of plants, and serves as a viable treatment of soil under the condition in existence.
