Flow field and thermal behaviour in swirling and non-swirling turbulent impinging jets

Turbulent swirling jets are investigated both experimentally and numerically. Methods used: CTA, infrared thermography, CFD (RANS, SST k-ω). Flow field turbulence strongly affects the impingement heat transfer distribution. Strongly swirling jets can yield higher Nu for near-field impingement (H = 2D). Non- or weakly-swirling jets yield better Nu in far-field impingement (H = 6D).
