The nfnAB operon does not seem to play a role in C. thermocellum metabolism. The rnf operon is important for ethanol production. Overexpression of rnf increased ethanol production in certain strains. Electron transfer from ferredoxin to NAD+ is critical to increasing biofuel yield.
