Floating microbial fuel cells as energy harvesters for signal transmission from natural water bodies

文摘
Floating microbial fuel cell (fMFC) operated for over 1 year as “floating gardens”. Ten fMFC harvested energy in oxygen-rich water- in ponds at Milan (Italy). The anodes were buried in soil and covered by plants influencing power generation. The cathodes were exposed directly to oxygen inside the water bulk. A DC/DC converter and a low-energy data transmitter were powered by the fMFCs.
