Trachytes coinciding with the beginning of the South Atlantic rift are studied. These underwent an alteration influenced by low salinity fluids. Temperatures and pCO2 values have been constrained using PHREEQC. Modelled fluids are Fe, HCO3+CO3, alkali-rich with evolving Ca, Mg, and Si content. This methodology helps to constrain the diagenetic processes and the palaeofluids.
