We developed a strategy for the atmospheric icing prevention based on chemically functionalized icephobic carbon soot.
The method is scalable and the soot’s mechanical strength is enhanced using a chemical treatment with ethanol and fluorocarbon.
The functionalized soot demonstrates icephobicity in condensate environments at temperatures down to −35 °C.
Also, it retains non-wettability upon air scavenging, spinning, water jetting and multiple icing/de-icing cycles.
