B cell accumulation in the CNS does not require ectopic follicle formation. CNS accumulation of more differentiated B cells reflects peripheral activation events. Differentiated B cells in the CNS display markers of sustained local activation. B cell differentiation phenotype influences anatomical localization in the CNS.
