The forest sector’s contribution to Swedish climate neutrality by 2050 is explored. The 2 °C target and an allocated Swedish C budget provide alternative perspectives. Bioenergy and biobased materials can play important complementary roles. The neutrality goal is only met when carbon sequestration in forests is factored in. Active forestry can support increased biomass harvest and enhanced carbon sinks.
