Tree clearance increased daily maximum and minimum soil temperatures about 1 °C. Mean daily soil temperature increased 1 °C after clearcutting. Chloride value of soil water significantly decreased after woody vegetation removal. Sulfate concentration decreased in the topsoil in the absence of forest cover.
