FE models were developed to predict energy absorption of the UltraSTEEL® columns. Dynamic crushing tests were conducted at two different impact velocities. The finite element models were validated by comparing with experimental results. SEA of the UltraSTEEL® columns are about 10% higher than plain columns. An optimization study on forming depth was carried out.
