C. reinhardtii accumulated similar levels of Cr(III) and Cr(VI). The subcellular partitioning of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) was similar. Cr(III) and Cr(VI) associated mainly with organelles and heat-stable proteins. Metallomic analysis showed two main Cr-binding biomolecules after 72 h of exposure.
