Maternal diabetes and high glucose in vitro induce Sca1+ cardiac progenitor apoptosis. foxo3a gene deletion blocks maternal diabetes-induced Sca1+ cardiac progenitor apoptosis. Constitutively active FoxO3a mimics whereas dominant negative FoxO3a inhibits high glucose-induced apoptosis. FoxO3a mediates the pro-apoptotic effect of diabetes and high glucose on Sca1+ cardiac progenitors.
