Active surveillance curbs the spread of infection. Microbiologic testing is essential for outbreak diagnosis. Identifying the outbreak etiology assists in outbreak management. There is an urgent need for antimicrobial stewardship programs in residential aged care facilities. Microbiologic testing could be a valuable tool for antimicrobial stewardship.
