Tertiary Forlandsundet basin, Svalbard records Laurasian continental-bridge rupture. Fractured clasts with injected matrix, stylolites and faults record Late Eocene NNW–SSE extrusion. Younger structures record latest Eocene transtension in the Forlandsundet graben. NW–SE extension was established at least 9 m.y. before Molloy oceanic lithosphere. Paleogene basin encapsulates the transition from oblique convergence to divergence.
