Analyses of human dentine and tooth enamel by laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) to study the diet of medieval Muslim individuals from Tauste (Spain)
LA-ICP-MS was used to analyse trace elements in teeth to infer palaeodietary patterns of a medieval Muslim population. Dentine and enamel tissues exhibited a distinctive chemical composition related to their biogenic composition. Only dentine chemical composition reflects dietary habits and health of the medieval population. The medieval Muslim population exhibited dissimilar dietary patterns according to sex and age. Scarce poisoning events have been traced by high lead contents with anthropogenic origin.
