A survey was performed on microbial communities in oil reservoirs with different temperatures.
The survey focuse on genes of cbbM, cbbL, fthfs, [FeFe]-hydrogenase encoding gene and mcrA.
A rich diversity of functional genes involved in CO2 fixation and conversion of CO2 to CH4 was found.
The predominant methanogens were hydrogenotrophic CO2 reducing ones.
The results implies high potential for in situ microbial fixation and conversion of CO2 into CH4.
