We studied the effect of pore size on bone tissue in-growth in a rabbit in vivo model.

Titanium samples with 300/600/900 μm pore size in three-dimensionally controlled shapes were fabricated by additive manufacturing.

Samples were well-characterized physically as well as mechanically and histologically.

Porous implants with a pore size of 600 μm have the highest bone-material fixation ability and the best bone ingrowth.

It is suggested that samples with a pore size of 600 μm are best suited to orthopedic applications.
