An image-processing based technique to obtain instantaneous walking and running speed was developed. The semi-automatic method processes movies obtained with consumer-use (high-speed) cameras. The outputs of the newly developed method were compared with those of motion capture. Differences of the outputs were fairly small, supporting the accuracy of the new method.
