Studies have not rigorously evaluated the impact of antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP) involvement on patient outcomes in Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). A real-time ASP review and intervention process for CDI was evaluated. ASP intervention improved process measures for CDI management but not attributable clinical outcomes. The future role of disease-based stewardship for CDI is discussed.
