F – doped CdO thin films were synthesized using spray pyrolysis without any use of surfactant.

F – doped CdO cauliflower like structure based thin film acts as a electrocatalyst in the redox reaction of arsenic in water.

F – doped CdO thin film does not require arsenite oxidase reductase enzyme and mediator which makes the proposed sensor cost-effective.

F – doped CdO thin film exhibited a detection limit of 4.55 × 10−3 ppb which is less than the WHO limit (10 ppb) for arsenic in drinking water.
