Ethanol production and consumption are not homogeneous in different Brazilian regions. System dynamics was used to assess the impact of productivity, tax and gasoline price on ethanol production. Different arrangements for sugarcane productivity, tax rate and gasoline prices were simulated. The control of the price of regular gasoline by government limits the feasibility of ethanol. The plant production mix may be fundamental for the viability of the ethanol production.
