Efficient gas barrier properties of multi-layer films based on poly(lactic acid) and fish gelatin

Multi-layer film based on poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and fish gelatin was prepared.

Oxygen permeability of PLA decreased more than 8-fold due to multi-layer structure.

A reduction of 91% in WVP was obtained for multi-layer film compared with gelatin.

The designed multi-layer film maintains high level of optical clarity.

This barrier film is a promising candidate to polymeric food packaging materials.
