Lightweight geopolymer aggregates were manufactured from fly ash and mine tailings. Geopolymer aggregates have similar or better physical properties than LECAs. Rheology of the mortar paste is similar for LECAs and geopolymer aggregates. Geopolymer aggregates produced higher-strength mortars and concretes than LECAs.
