US ranks high in costs but low in key health metrics compared to peer nations. Two competing ethical views are among the several causes of these differences. A single payer system of universal health care can address our dysfunctional system. Universal health care should lead to advances in healthspan. Anticipated savings & uniform data of an improved system should enhance research.
